Maternity And Plus Size Jeans And Trousers

Maternity clothes now come in a wide range and this includes fashionable jeans and trousers.

As you expand and grow during your pregnancy you can choose a flattering cut such as bootleg or wide leg jeans.

Jeans and trouser styles are available in varying types of fabric most of which are very stretchable and will keep you feeling comfortable.

Some brands of maternity jeans and trousers have panels in the front made especially for the growing tummy which allows you to wear the same pair of trousers throughout your pregnancy. Shorts and cropped trousers are increasingly available in similar styles.

Jeans can be comfortably worn underneath your baby bump and you can opt for low-rise jeans in a cotton-Lycra blend. The clingy fabric in the jeans hugs the body and a stretchy waistband will help to support your tummy and keep you comfortable.

If you are getting larger you can choose a pair that has been lightened at the thighs and knees to make your legs look more shapely if needed. Avoid standard boot cut jeans that have little shape and go for the maternity or plus size ranges.

When buying maternity jeans the size will be based on the size you were before you became pregnant. Maternity jeans come in many different styles and fits and they will either fit over your bump, around your waist / on your bump or under your bump.

Make sure you try jeans and trousers on before purchasing them as you may not like the feel of wearing them over your bump, on your bump or under your bump. Some women do not feel secure wearing maternity trousers under their bump or find them uncomfortable to wear. Your best bet is to find a pair which feel as though you're wearing a normal pair of jeans.

You should also pay attention to zips, flys and buttons as if they are fairly bulky they could "dig in" to your bump and leave marks by the end of a long day of wear. You also don't want the fly or buttons to show through clothes which you wear on top so choose a form fitting pair.

Maternity styles sometimes use different terms to describe styles and fits.

Jersey basque provides a soft stretch jersey front panel that expands with your bump together with concealed adjustable elastic to also help the fit. Jeans and trousers with a jersey waist band sit over your bump to hold it in and act as a support and can be very comfortable to wear. The style typically has no fly so the style is very flattering to your shape.

A fully elasticated waistband will fit above your bump and provide some stretch and room to grow.

An under the bump fit provides a jersey panel with a supportive band of wide elastic that fits comfortably under your bump and is typically ideal for the earlier stages of pregnancy.

Some trousers come with a drawstring waistband, which is elasticated at the back, and an adjustable draw cord at the front.

A fly front trouser or jeans has a normal button or zip opening with adjustable straps hidden in the sides of the waistband.

Side panels are a nice way of trousers expanding with your bump by providing elasticated side jersey panels.

A fly front style with hidden jersey panels also has a normal button or zip opening together with stretch jersey panels concealed behind the front pockets.

At the end of the day style and fit will be a matter of your own personal taste but there is such a range of choice - from classic straight leg and bootleg styles to the funkiest of fashion looks - that you'll be able to find a pair of maternity trousers or jeans which provide the comfort and fit you need to look great during your pregnancy!
