Finding The Right Maternity Bra

Maternity UnderwearIt becomes inevitable that around eight to ten weeks you'll need to buy a special maternity bra. If wearing your normal bra becomes uncomfortable then it's time to purchase a maternity bra. As your breasts increase in size during pregnancy a maternity bra becomes important to prevent muscles and ligaments from being stretched and provide much needed support to your bust.

When choosing a maternity bra look for a style with wide, firm elastic straps to give extra support. The sides and under bust band should also be wider as well as having a deep center at the fron to give added support. Wide straps can stop your bra from digging into your shoulders after a long period of wear.

Your breasts may become more sensitive or tender during your pregnancy so make sure your bra has plenty of fabric around the breast area for added comfort. Choose a bra where the fabric is breathable and there are no rough seams across the cup.

Maternity BraAs your bust size changes often during pregnancy it is wise to choose a maternity bra with good overall adjustability not only for comfort but also for cost effectiveness as you won't need to keep buying a new one. Choose a maternity bra that has four rows of hooks at the back as a minimum which will allow the bra to grow as you do. Do not buy a loose fitting bra in the earlier stages to allow for expansion in the later months of pregnancy as you need proper support at all times throughout your pregancy.

Maternity bras made of cotton fabric will allow your skin to breathe more freely and prevent sweating as you will find yourself getting hotter during your pregnancy. After a long day of wear you want your bra to remain comfortable and you don't want the seams to dig in or have the material make you itch.

Pregnancy BraStay away from rigid underwired bras and opt for a style with a flexible support as a rigid underwire can add pressure on your breasts as they grow and not feel comfortable. Look out for too large a band underneath which may tend to fold up and can be a little uncomfortable.

All good retail stores and shops will have a professional bra fitter on hand so if possible ask for advice and get yourself measured to find the right fit before looking for maternity bra styles that you like. They can assess your changing shape and size to make sure you buy bras that fit perfectly and give you the support your body needs. Make sure you get measured every six to eight weeks.
